so my soul pants for you, my God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?”
-Psalm 42:1-2
Is this your heart? Is this my heart?
Are we feeling hungry for more of God right now or are we content with
where things are at? Perhaps we are a bit numb to just about anything with
all that has been going on in the world lately?
Maybe we are feeling pretty lethargic about our faith? Or maybe we feel
desperate for God?
Where are you on the spectrum?
Or does that even matter? Truthfully… does it matter how we* feel *about
this? Or do we need to *decide*? If you read the rest of that Psalm I think
you will hear the turmoil in David’s heart. There was a part of him that
wanted more of God and a part of him that was discouraged and downcast.
However, in spite of this turmoil, David seems to simply make the choice to
look to God and trust in Him. Perhaps there are some of us in a similar
situation. We are feeling cold in our faith, discouraged, frustrated,
distant or -insert how you feel here-. David doesn’t deny he was feeling
those things. He acknowledged them and he didn’t let them take over or
define him. He did his best to wrestle himself back to a place where he was
looking to God. Maybe we need to try the same?
Regardless of how I feel, I am gonna choose to look to God and trust in Him
as David closes the Psalm,
“Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.”
I am not saying this is easy nor am I attempting to minimize how you feel.
What I am asking you to do is to engage your faith, make a choice and look
to God – which may very well NOT be what you feel you want to do. Thirst
for God. Long for Him. Desire more. God has more for us!
There are a couple gatherings to register for this weekend, please do that
at your earliest convenience and once again look forward to the online
service being uploaded by Saturday afternoon. If you need a connection
please contact us and let us know. There are still some House Church groups
running and if you are interested in either starting one or joining one
please let me know as well. It’s a bit different with the Covid
regulations, but still possible.
God bless,
Pastor Dave
