Pastor’s Garage April 28th, 2022

Good morning everyone. It’s hard not to feel just a little more relaxed and
a little more optimistic when the sun is shining so bright and the forecast
is predicting mid teens for the next few days… it’s kind of funny how a
little change can bring so much optimism! I mean in reality, the change in
weather doesn’t actually change a whole lot in my day, but it sure makes me
feel just that much better. I remember years ago my pastor in Vancouver
(who did not watch sports or care about any sports for that matter) used to
say he could tell if the BC Lions or the Vancouver Canucks won on Saturday
night based on peoples countenance and engagement in worship on Sunday. I’d
love to say that that is ridiculous, but I think we can be just as fickle
about our outlook on the day, sometimes based on some really insignificant
things. How much more confident and optimistic would I be if I based my
mood not on insignificant and fluffy things but on the promises in God’s
word? I mean look at these two verses (and there are probably a 100 others
I could have picked):

– 2 Corinthians 5:17 says “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new
creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.”
– 1 Peter 1:5 says “who are protected by the power of God through faith
for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”

I am a new creation! The old stuff has passed away. I am made new in
Christ! Should that not fill me with confidence and joy much more than a
change in weather? My salvation is secure! No matter what, I am protected
by the power of God. That should be a boost in my mood, no matter what I am
to face in the future. Let’s enjoy the things in our world and celebrate a
much needed change in the weather, but let’s also lean on God’s word and
look to his promises to strengthen us for whatever we will face in the days
ahead.

This Sunday will be communion and I will be sharing – and would appreciate
your prayers. Pastor Mike will be leading worship this Sunday, so please
pray for him as well.

Saturday night at 7:00pm we will gather for prayer again at the church.
This is something I’d like us to continue to do, so please join us.

Sunday May 15th will be another potluck. Following the potluck we are
planning on having another Round Table Discussion… something we haven’t
done for a while. This is really a time for us to dream, to discuss where
we are going. and what is important for us as a church. It’s also a time
where we can offer some feedback on how things have been going. In order to
facilitate the discussion I am going to be sending out an online version of
the questions that you can either send your answers in on or just use to
get the creative juices flowing. I’m planning on sending that out early
next week, so keep your eyes out for an email on that.

As always, have a great weekend. God bless,

Pastor Dave
