The Pastor’s Garage March 26th, 2021
March 26, 2021
Well, the weather must not have warmed up too much as I still have a
mostly frozen backyard rink – which can’t be skated on but is still a giant
chunk of winter reminder in my backyard. There is no fooling anyone with a
picture captioned “summer is here” or “life in california.” Let alone the
Saskatchewan spring winds whipping the trees around that make you wish you
could hibernate like a bear till June. Winter leaves its mark.
But, as the sun continues to get higher in the sky and as the temperature
slowly rises, winter and all the evidence of its presence is eventually
erased from the world around us and from our minds. Which is a good thing
otherwise we would never be able to live here as long as we do.
Sin and all its effects can feel like a winter gone too long. Its grip can
linger in our lives and can keep reminding us of its presence. Whether it
is sickness, poverty, addictions, broken relationships or hardships or
something else, the effect of sin on our world can be discouraging and
overwhelming.
But, the summer of Christ’s return is coming!
Luke 21:28 – “When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up
your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
One day Christ will return and the end of the world as we know it will
come. He will set everything right. He will melt the winter of sin and it
will be no more. In an instant things will be set right.
However, we can take heart now because ever since Christ came the first
time, we have been in the spring! God is calling people. Melting hard
hearts. Redeeming the lost. Speaking to people. Pursuing them. Comforting
those who are in pain. Working in our lives. Builing up the church.
Directing you and I. Setting things right. Taking his time. As it says in 2
Peter 3:8-10:
“But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is
like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not
slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is
patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to
repentance.”
His desire is that as many hearts would melt as possible – he wants ALL to
come to rependance!
Take heart my dear friends, the summer of the Son is coming!
